Here is a week-by-week list of Posts, Comments, Journal Entries, and anything else that we've agreed to produce in this course. Titles for your personal course blog posts are in CAPS. If you have any questions or need any help, please email or schedule a meeting with me here.

Week 1

  • Attend or watch Zoom meeting

  • Complete member survey
  • Publish "Welcome" post on personal course blog (title: WELCOME)
  • Publish first impression of "Right to Your Opinion" on personal course blog (title: THE RIGHT TO MY OPINION)

Week 2

Week 3

Week 4

Week 5

  • Attend or watch Zoom meeting
  • Journal entries (daily)
  • Read "Young Goodman Brown" & answer the questions in a post on your blog (title: THE SCARIEST STORY) 
  • Start a list (in your notebook or on your computer/tablet/phone) of the words in "Young Goodman Brown" that are unfamiliar to you or are used in an unfamiliar way. Keep the list where you can refer to it when we revisit the story next week.
  • Email your progress report insights no later than 3:00 P.M. on Friday, September 18
  • Start a list (in your notebook or on your computer/tablet/phone) of the words in Les Mis that are unfamiliar to you or are used in an unfamiliar way. Keep the list where you can refer to it when we read next week.
  • Read "how to publish your handwritten work online" and post your three favorite journal entries (making sure, of course, that they are internet-friendly and make you look good!) on your blog (title: PAGES FROM MY JOURNAL #1). Due by Tuesday, 9/22 at 9:00 A.M. Pacific. 

Week 6

  • Watch "Symbolism Part II"
  • Review (read, listen, or watch) & post:

Week 9

  • Read "how to publish your handwritten work online" and please post your three favorite journal entries from the past two weeks on your blog (making sure, of course, that they are internet-friendly and make you look good!) on your blog (title: PAGES FROM MY JOURNAL #2). Due by Tuesday, 10/13 at 5:00 P.M. Pacific. 
  • Read "How We Read." In a post on your blog, please describe the four strategies recommended in the essay for how to love reading while also mastering reading for school. (title: HOW WE READ/ first lines: "Reading is supposed to be fun, but sometimes reading for school is a challenge. Here are four ways we can have more fun reading and do it better at the same time...") 
  • Review (read, listen, or watch) "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" and post your first impression (title: FIRST IMPRESSION OF A WEIRD LOVE SONG). What about the poem jumped out at you -- was there an image, or a feeling about the main character that got your attention? Why do you think the poet called this a "love song" when there doesn't seem to be any romance in it? Did reading the poem affect your mood at all? Remember: with first impressions, there's no wrong answer (except the one you don't write).

Week10

  • Post:

  • Begin reading/ listening to Fahrenheit 451
  • Read & post first impression posts:

  • Read Literature Analysis book, answer Literature Analysis questions, and post Literature Analysis on your blog (title: LITERATURE ANALYSIS #1/ due Friday, November 20 by 5:00 P.M. Pacific Time)

 Week 14

  • Attend or watch Zoom meeting
  • Journal entries (daily)
  • Finish reading/ listening to Fahrenheit 451 
  • Over the break, you will write an essay on the book. This will be due on your blog by Monday, November 30 at 8:00A Pacific Time. 
  • In the meantime, please continue writing in your journal each day. You will be asked to post your next round of three favorite journal entries by this Friday, November 20, at 5:00P Pacific Time. 
  • Read Literature Analysis book, answer Literature Analysis questions, and post Literature Analysis on your blog (title: LITERATURE ANALYSIS #1/ due Friday, November 20 by 5:00 P.M. Pacific Time)
